The recommended area

The perineum is the short stretch of skin between the anus and the posterior part of the scrotum.

According to my SRS technique, the perineal skin (1.5 to 2 inches above the anus) is the only potentially hair-bearing tissue that is used to become a part of the floor of the vaginal opening.

If you have much hair in this area you should consider genital electrolysis hair removal before sex reassignment surgery. To avoid possible hair growth around the vaginal opening (not inside the deep part of your vagina).

There is no need to worry about any hair inside the vagina because the lining comes from the hairless scrotal skin graft. The reason is because during the delicate process of the skin graft preparation, Doctor Chettawut removes of all the fatty layer and also removes all the hair follicles (hair roots) which are contained in the deep part of the skin layer.

Please note that that this hair removal can also be done after SRS without any difficulty, and the timing of the hair removal either before or after surgery will NOT affect the outcome of the SRS surgery according to Doctor Chettawut’s technique. Therefore you can freely choose to do this or not before surgery. If you choose to have electrolysis hair removal then all hair should be fully removed by 2 months before your surgery date.

Electrolysis is usually not a one time procedure and you need to discuss how many sessions and how long the hair removal may take with your electrolysis technician.

If you decide to do electrolysis hair removal after SRS,you must wait for at least 6 months after surgery before begining to allow for the complete healing from SRS.

Doctor Chettawut does NOT require nor suggest that electrolysis hair removal be done on any part of the penile area at all. The reason is because Doctor Chettawut’s technique is a NON penile inversion which uses the penile skin mainly for the purpose of creation of the Labia Minor. Having electrolysis on the penile area may scar the penile skin and this causes the skin to become poor quality (too thick and less elasticity) for making the Labia Minor.

Laser or IPL hair reduction processes may not remove all the hair in this area and electrolysis is more reliable and Doctor Chettawut’s opinion is the best way for hair removal on the suggested area.
